Waterloo Station
Waterloo Station is one of the busiest railway stations in London, located in SE1. The re-roofing project at Waterloo Station was undertaken by Octavius Infrastructure Ltd, in collaboration with Alltask Scaffolding. The project involved the replacement of existing roofs and the provision of scaffolding to facilitate the works.
The process
The re-roofing project at Waterloo Station consisted of two main areas: the main concourse roof and the external North and South Port Cochere’s, and adjacent link canopy. Alltask Scaffolding was responsible for providing scaffolding to both areas for the roof replacement works.
For the main concourse roof, the scaffolding was installed between existing roofs 1-14 and roofs 15-25 in two separate phases. The primary deck scaffolding was erected and dismantled during engineering hours, while the birdcage and temporary roof scaffolding were erected and dismantled during extended night shifts.
In addition to the main concourse roof, scaffolding was also provided to the North Port Cochere, South Port Cochere, and the link canopy to facilitate roof replacement works. Traditional tube and fitting scaffolding was used for this area.
The detail
The re-roofing project at Waterloo Station required careful planning and coordination due to the complexity of the site. Alltask Scaffolding worked closely with Octavius Infrastructure Ltd and Network Rail to ensure that the designs complied with all industry requirements.
The project involved the development of detailed design drawings, analysis of temporary roofs and suspended decks, and coordination with project structural engineers. All designs underwent a thorough review process and were presented to stakeholders for approval.
A total of 21 design drawings were approved for the external design package, and 42 design drawings for the internal package. The PSD team, in collaboration with Alltask, demonstrated their commitment and skill throughout the project, ensuring the successful execution of the re-roofing works at Waterloo Station.
The efforts of PSD and the wider consortium led by Octavius were praised by the NWR Project Manager, who commended their professionalism, enthusiasm, and quick turnaround time for drawing revisions and engineering queries.
